Collection: Xavier Galiza

Xavier Galiza (Ourense, 1943) is one of the most renowned Galician watercolorists of his generation. Trained in drawing, modeling, and carving at the School of Arts and Crafts in Ourense, he began his professional career in photography, a discipline he combined with painting during his early years.

His work gained significant recognition in 1973 with the photographic study El Arte Prerrománico en Galicia (Pre-Romanesque Art in Galicia), presented at the Archaeological Museum of Ourense and considered a reference work on Galician pre-Romanesque heritage. After this period, he fully dedicated his activity to pictorial creation.

Recognized for his extraordinary mastery of watercolor, Xavier Galiza has developed a body of work focused on landscape, architecture, and urban environments, built through subtle transparencies, enveloping atmospheres, and a refined sensibility towards light and color. His compositions convey serenity, depth, and a poetic vision of the territory.

Throughout his career, he has exhibited in numerous national and international galleries and institutions, consolidating his own artistic language that positions him as a prominent figure in contemporary Spanish watercolor.
